Recently, the game Yakuza Kiwami 3, which briefly gained attention in the official Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios page with a designated independent category, has now been officially announced with the start of Tokyo Game Show 2025. This restructured game, which will be released as a paid independent expansion pack called Dark Ties, presents a reimagined version of the third installment of the series. The series, first released in 2009, centered around main character Kazuma Kiryu’s journey out of the yakuza world and his efforts to establish a new life at a orphanage in Okinawa. However, the peaceful life does not last long, and the shadow of old enemies looms over them again.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 Announcement: Coming February 2026. This reworked third game promises an unforgettable experience for both old fans and new players. The trailer shows how the visuals have become more impressive with an enhanced engine; the combat system has been updated to include modern elements and character models have been redesigned. Additionally, the reintroduction of some side stories and content suggests that content cut from Yakuza 3 will be making a comeback.
Along with the paid independent expansion pack called Dark Ties, the game will be released for PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series. With Dark Ties, the character Mine will offer a perspective beyond Kiyia Kiryu and allow insight into details not covered extensively in the main game. It seems to add new dimensions to the story by focusing on Mine’s relationships with Kendo and the Dojima family.
