SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio shared behind-the-scenes footage for Stranger Than Heaven as part of Tokyo Game Show 2025. The game was announced under the project name Century at The Game Awards 2024 and was revealed to be officially titled Stranger Than Heaven at Summer Game Fest. The story invites players on a journey reminiscent of the old days, set in an atmosphere inspired by Osaka’s Dotonbori and Sotenbori areas.
The behind-the-scenes video of Stranger Than Heaven, while not providing an exact release date, was released at Tokyo Game Show 2025. The video showcases motion capture actors’ fight choreography and the technical infrastructure of the game, but it does not include storylines or in-game scenes.
The development team also shared that we have previously seen sections of Stranger Than Heaven set in the years 1915, 1929, and 1943. Therefore, the game will not be confined to a single period; it will feature atmospheres from different eras and a multi-generational cityscape visualized on screen. This diversity aims to provide a narrative that takes players through different time periods.
It is also important to note that the connection with Like A Dragon (formerly known as Yakuza) and Judgement is limited to similar combat mechanics and does not directly relate to the main storyline. However, the unique approach that arises from jumping across years stands out as an intriguing difference for Stranger Than Heaven.
