Apple has reviewed the temporary delay of Vision Pro and shifted its focus primarily on enterprise smart glasses. According to Bloomberg, the company informed employees in recent weeks that a lighter and more affordable variant of Vision Pro is being developed; this team has shifted towards developing smart glasses.
The new model is said to be named with the code N50 and will not include its own display; it is expected to work in conjunction with the iPhone. After a potential reveal around 2025 or 2026, the final version is planned to be released in 2027.
At a time when competition with Meta’s Ray-Ban is accelerating, Apple’s agenda is not only about N50. The company is also working on a glasses-oriented AR display model that could directly compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. This device is aimed to be launched before the 2028 target; developer teams are aiming to get ahead of competitors by entering the market early.
According to information previously shared by Gurman, a new Siri version enhanced with large language models will also be introduced in the upcoming period. This advanced Siri will be able to operate simultaneously on glasses, displays, and speakers.
In terms of new generation features, smart glasses will be equipped with a variety of designs and internally powered chips; listening to music with internal speakers, taking photos and videos with cameras will be possible. The ability to monitor health data with sensors is also among the current topics.
The ultimate goal is to produce advanced augmented reality glasses that could replace phones. However, due to Meta’s current advantage in the market, Apple’s strategy has quickly reshaped. Vision Pro has not been completely shelved; recently, an updated “Head-Upper Device” record belonging to Apple appeared in FCC documents, and it is still unclear whether this model will be lighter and more affordable than the original Vision Pro.
