With PSSR improvements based on FSR 4, the PS5 Pro will have more advanced image processing technology by 2026.
Sony confirmed that PSSR upgrades for the PS5 Pro will arrive in 2026.
The PS5 Pro is preparing to receive a significant update in image processing. Sony confirmed that the console will not have the full version of FSR 4, but rather an upgraded version developed in collaboration with AMD for PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution). These innovations are expected to be introduced at the beginning of 2026.
AMD’s FSR 4 technology enhances image quality using AI-based computation cores. However, instead of directly implementing this technology on the PS5 Pro, Sony will integrate a version adapted to the existing PSSR system.
The console’s lead architect, Mark Cerny, stated the following regarding this matter:
“Our focus in 2025 will be integrating PSSR into games with developers. However, in parallel, we have started adding a new neural network-based system to the PS5 Pro. Our goal is to offer an upscaler very close to FSR 4 for 2026 games.”
Sony’s aim is to achieve results in the PS5 Pro that are equivalent to the quality offered by FSR 4. Cerny also pointed out that the PS5 Pro has a performance of 300 TOPS, which is comparable to current AMD graphics cards.
This development comes at a time when console prices are rising. Last month, Sony announced a price update in the US, with the PS5 priced at $549.99, the digital version at $499.99, and the PS5 Pro at $749.99. There was no change in accessory prices.
In conclusion, by 2026, the PS5 Pro aims to elevate PSSR technology to a new level based on FSR 4, providing a clearer and smoother gaming experience.
