The latest insights from Valve’s monthly hardware and software survey showcase how gamers are configuring their systems. While NVIDIA’s GeForce lineup remains the top pick, laptops equipped with the GeForce RTX 4060 have reclaimed the number one spot for September.
Steam details its survey findings to capture what devices players use most. The September hardware and software statistics highlight the distribution of graphics cards, operating systems, memory, graphics memory, storage, and language preferences among Steam users.
Graphics card leaders — for September, the GeForce RTX 4060 for laptops sits at the crown with 4.63% of users. Following are the GeForce RTX 3060 for desktops at 4.25% and the RTX 4060 for desktops at 4.08%.
Operating systems — Windows 11 64-bit remains the dominant choice with 63.04%, while Windows 10 64-bit accounts for 32.18%.
Other platforms — macOS 15.6.1 64-bit leads the OSX segment with 0.78%, and Arch Linux 64-bit tops the Linux segment at 0.29%.
Memory and storage — 41.76% of systems have 16 GB RAM, 36.26% use 32 GB, and 8.05% operate with 8 GB. In terms of graphics memory, 33.66% use cards with 8 GB, 18.99% use 12 GB, and 10.40% use 6 GB.
Storage capacity — more than 1 TB is preferred by 52.13% of users, followed by 750–999 GB at 22.73% and 250–499 GB at 17.23%.
Language preferences — English leads with 36.17%, Simplified Chinese stands at 27.04%, and Russian at 9.19%. Among less represented languages, Turkish sits at 1.18%.
