OpenAI has introduced Sora 2, the most advanced video and audio generation model in response to Google’s VeO 3 move. Coming only 10 months after the first version, it is referred to by OpenAI as the “GPT-3.5 moment” for video. The original Sora was considered a starting point at GPT-1 level in the video world.
One of Sora 2’s most notable features is scene production based on physical laws, which reflects realistic physical dynamics much better than previous models. While earlier AI models were limited to sending basketballs into hoops, Sora 2 understands physical interactions. Olympic gymnastic movements, paddleboard tricks performed on water, and complex artistic skating spins are now simulated more realistically. The model also increases realism by linearly mimicking failures.
Flexibility and control for creativity Sora 2 adapts to detailed user scenarios and multiple scene instructions, providing a consistent universe throughout the story. Its ability to produce realistic, cinematic, or anime-style videos offers content creators a broad creative space.
Cameo contribution from real world The cameo system, one of the most innovative features of the model, allows users to digitally integrate themselves, friends, or objects into the Sora environment with short video or audio samples.
The Sora app for iOS OpenAI also announced the Sora iOS application along with Sora 2. Through this app, users can create videos, edit and remix content, and add cameos.
Security measures for safe usage The application includes AI-powered recommendation algorithms, natural language guided flow control, and wellbeing check-ins. Default content restrictions are in place for young users; for parents, safe usage is ensured via ChatGPT-supported monitoring tools.
Access and usage The Sora app can be downloaded on iOS devices. Users join a queue with an invitation and receive a notification when they gain access. During the early access period, the model will be available for free. ChatGPT Pro members will have access to the more advanced Sora 2 Pro version as well as the current Sora 1 Turbo version. OpenAI also announced that Sora 2 will soon be available via API.
