The long-standing TikTok crisis between the United States and China has not yet been resolved. US President Donald Trump, after a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, used the expressions “I approved the TikTok agreement” in statements made to journalists both on his social media platform Truth Social and in the Oval Office. However, Trump’s words seemed to conflict with reports from the Chinese side.
The Chinese state media portrayed the meeting differently. According to Chinese sources, Xi Jinping stated that the government respects the will of the companies, prefers a solution consistent with market rules, compliant with Chinese laws, and considers the interests of both parties.
Agreement between China and America
The owner of TikTok, ByteDance, issued a statement saying, “We thank President Xi Jinping and President Donald J. Trump for their efforts to maintain TikTok’s presence in the US. Our company will act in full compliance with all applicable laws to ensure TikTok remains accessible to American users.”
According to information leaked to the press, the terms of the agreement include control by US investors, continued use of ByteDance’s algorithm technology, and a multi-billion dollar payment to the Trump administration. Additionally, developing a new app for TikTok’s US users is also on the table.
Despite all these developments, no definitive conclusion has been announced. The Trump administration has postponed the complete ban on TikTok for the fourth time. Both parties have until December to formalize the agreement.
During this period, uncertainty persists both in the US public and in the tech world. The future of TikTok has become an important part of the political and economic balance between Washington and Beijing.
