Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple sold between 160,000 and 180,000 Apple Vision Pro units during the first pre-order weekend. This seems to be in line with what the market expects from Apple. While the title is selling very quickly and shipping times for all models extend up to 5-7 weeks, it is certain that a period has begun in which it will be difficult to maintain the momentum of Apple Vision Pro.
According to Kuo, the immediate depletion of pre-order stocks and the extension of delivery times seem positive at first, but there is a significant concern: “After pre-orders opened, delivery times remained unchanged for 48 hours. “This suggests that demand may wane quickly once core fans and heavy users place their orders.”
Comparing the pre-sale of Apple Vision Pro with iPhones, the analyst reminds that most popular models sell out quickly and shipping times often range from a few hours to several weeks. However, unlike the Vision Pro, there continues to be an increase in delivery times for iPhone models, 24 to 48 hours after pre-orders open.
While Luxshare is expected to work overtime to meet demand, the manufacturer is still trying to improve production efficiency. According to Kuo, “Luxshare has been working overtime since the beginning of mass production to offset the impact of production efficiency on shipments.”
Apple expects to meet a shipment volume of 500,000 units for Vision Pro in 2024, but maintaining the momentum may be difficult.
The first problem that the Apple Vision Pro will face stems from previous rumors that the supply chain is tightening. Sony, which is responsible for the product’s impressive screen, can only produce a few hundred thousand units a year. This means global expansion will be slow and Apple will not be able to meet local demand.
Finally, as always, the price tag poses a significant obstacle. Apple is currently charging a pretty high price for a device that doesn’t have a full implementation. Publishing reviews of this device this week or next could either help Apple enter a new market category in years to come, or it could make the situation much more difficult. We’ll wait and see…
